How did photo embroidery come into my life?
Photo embroidery
History of photo embroidery
Embroidery is an ancient art; it is an ancestral technique.
We go back to medieval times, when embroidery was already used to repair torn manuscripts. In Egypt, they even embroidered with gold.
Although if we think about embroidery, the image that comes to mind will be that of our grandmothers or even great-grandmothers in their chairs with their frames.
Embroidery represented all the qualities of the feminine ideal that prevailed at the time: delicacy, submission, patience... But it was with the first waves of feminism that the desire to break away from all those roles that had been imposed on us for centuries was realized.
In Spain, embroidery on postcards began in the 1950s and 1960s.
Today, creating with your hands is synonymous with art because you are creating a unique piece.
We have adapted an ancient technique to our times using the same language that has been used for centuries.

The scars
The day I showed my son this photo embroidery he told me - "Mommy, I like the back of the painting better."
The truth is, I do too. And not because it doesn't look beautiful on the front, but because the back of the embroidered photograph represents our wounds and scars. What we can't see, and don't show, but that is there and is part of us and who we are.
